Why a Blog for No One?

In high school, I would sit down to write, simply for the sake of writing. I had story ideas that would begin unfolding, and just as soon as I started, these stories were abandoned. I liked coming up with ideas more than I liked filling the details in between. I haven’t completely let go of my desire to write. I keep a journal, and have from time to time dabbled in more unfinished stories… One unfinished story to be exact.

This blog, a blog for no one, is a place for my words to be published without worrying “what will others think?”

Why publish when I can keep writing in my journal? I feel silly trying to masterfully craft my words in a journal. I want that to be a sacred space for my thoughts to flow freely. It is not a space, for me, to create a practice, or improve a skill. I don’t want to sit down at my journal and worry more about how it sounds. That takes away from the therapeutic nature of journaling.

So here, I will write, again just for the sake of writing. It won’t start off beautiful. It won’t be found by some wandering reader who will think, “what deep, influential thoughts that need to be shared with the world! We must find this writer out!” It will be messy, that I can promise. Somewhere in the mess, might be a beautiful anecdote or a deep truth that should be shared with others.

For now, this is a place just for me, a place where I will experiment. I will try as best as I can to put my thoughts into sentences that flow together, hopefully coherently. I’ll come back to each post a few weeks later to reread it. Likely, I’ll forget the jumbled thoughts that I had in the exact moment of writing it, and I’ll get to see it from a somewhat more distant perspective. I’ll edit, and try to incorporate those edits in my future posts.

I do not know what will come out of this. I have no hopes, except to be a better writer. I have no expectations of where this will lead.

So here goes… Welcome to my mess.
